What is the Petrolatum Anti-Corrosion Tape?

YTM Makina Petrolatum Anti-Corrosion Tape is a synthetic fabric coated on both sides with petrolatum mastic. Its high malleability lets it conform closely to irregular shapes such as fittings, bends, tees, flanges and valves.

Cold applied and environmentally friendly, it protects metallic installations where the temperature does not exceed 50 °C and complies with EN 12068 Class A30. On irregular surfaces it is used together with YTM Petrolatum Moulding Paste.

Key features and benefits

  • Complies with EN 12068 Class A30
  • High malleability – conforms to any shape
  • Cold applied, environmentally friendly
  • Suitable for buried and submerged service
  • Ideal for fittings, flanges and valves
  • Compatible with PE, PP, PU, FBE and CTE coatings

Applications

  • Buried and submerged pipelines
  • Fittings, bends and tees
  • Flanges and valves
  • Field joints and other metallic installations
  • Steel, ductile iron and concrete pipes

Industries served

  • Water and wastewater networks
  • Oil and gas pipelines
  • Valve chambers and pumping stations
  • Industrial plants

Why petrolatum tape?

  • Tolerant of imperfect surface preparation – ideal where blast cleaning is not possible.
  • Remains soft and conformable – seals complex shapes such as flanges, valves and couplings.
  • No curing, no special tools – apply, press and backfill.
  • Can be removed for inspection and re-applied.

How to apply

  1. CleanWire-brush off rust, dirt and weld spatter; remove oil, grease or test gel with a solvent such as white spirit.
  2. ProfileOn irregular surfaces, first mould YTM Petrolatum Moulding Paste to a smooth profile.
  3. WrapWrap spirally with 50 % overlap; overlap any factory coating by at least 10 cm.
  4. PressPress the overlaps by hand for full adhesion between layers.
